APL Sets Congestion Fee at Aden Port

Singapore-based container carrier APL imposed a port congestion surcharge on all shipments from Asia and the Middle East to Aden, Yemen.

The surcharges, effective immediately, are $150 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.

Shipping through Aden Port, operated by DP World, has been severely disrupted over the past two weeks because of labor unrest. Reports from the Arab country said dockworkers at the Aden Container Terminal are demanding wages and benefits at a par with other DP World facilities in the region.
